The NAACP passed a resolution Promoting Equitable Access to Clean Energy Alternatives supporting distributed solar located within local communities and advocacy for fair net metering pricing structures. Also, they support job training and for low-to-moderate income African Americans in local energy jobs, noting that solar employment grew 13.2 percent over the past year making it one of the fastest growing industries in the country. The NAACP envisions community solar as “energy democracy” and states that the low price of solar energy may provide an economic opportunity for low-income families to produce their own energy freeing them from paying up to 30 percent of their annual monthly income for energy.
