The City of Fitchburg, WI is putting out a bid this month for “…a fire station with a major design focus on long term sustainability and low term maintenance” reports Tom Hovel, City Planner. The 23,000 square foot building will have a geothermal system with radiant floor hear, solar hot water heat, energy efficient lighting and systems, and be solar rooftop PV-ready. Focus on Energy provided energy modeling assistance and will help offset part of the cost of energy efficient equipment. Long lasting exterior materials and concrete floors are specified for low maintenance and long life. The fire station will house 5 fire trucks, 2 ambulances and a staff vehicle along with the fire fighters and emergency medical personnel.
