Two Mayors who were champions of clean energy and sustainability, Larry MacDonald of Bayfield and Sandy Decker of Evansville, retired from office in April. It’s important to recognize the vision and leadership of local officials who pioneer new technologies, pursue funding and new programs, work smartly toward resiliency, and inspire their communities, schools and residents. Mayors MacDonald and Becker both passed Energy Independent Community (EIC) Resolutions, received state grants for EIC planning, and subsequent federal and Focus funding to make projects happen from LED street lights to wind energy. As true leaders, both helped educate other officials about how they might do the same, while continuing to learn themselves and bring more opportunities to their residents and future generations. Thank you both and the many other municipal leaders that provide vision, leadership and service to your communities and to Wisconsin.
