According to the director of the White House National Economic Council, subsidies for electric vehicles (EVs) will end possibly in 2020 or 2021. Currently, the federal government provides a tax credit of $2,500 to $7,500 for newly purchased plug-in electric cars based on the battery capacity, which begins to fade out for each manufacturer when it has sold 200,000 qualified vehicles.
