The City of Madison is making progress toward its 100% renewable energy and carbon neutrality goals by implementing transportation electrification as a strategy to help achieve them. The City will buy 20 all-electric Chevrolet Bolts for its fleet by 2020, using a $129,000 grant from the State Office of Energy Innovation. Additionally, Madison Gas & Electric will provide $10,000 for electric vehicle charging stations around the city. Madison College will support the electrification of the fleet by developing a new technology and training program for electric vehicles and charging stations. The City will have 28 EVs and 60 hybrid vehicles in its 1400 vehicle fleet, including 36 new hybrid police cars.
