Eau Claire County recently voted 25-1 to approve a 100 percent renewable energy and carbon neutrality resolution by 2050. Their resolution extends to government operations and county-wide to residents and businesses. This follows the County’s path as an Energy Independent Community, a Green Tier Legacy Community and a county that has adopted PACE financing. Also, it is in keeping with the Eau Claire Chamber of Commerce position that “economic growth and environmental progress go hand in hand”.
Eau Claire County joins ranks with the City of Eau Claire that passed their carbon neutral 100% renewable energy resolution by 2050 city-wide in March 2018. Now, the two governments will collaborate with other local governments, UW-Eau Claire, Chippewa Valley Tech College, civic organizations, and utilities that serve the county to achieve their goals. They are in Xcel territory that is moving to 100 percent carbon-free energy by 2050 as well. The County allocated $10,000 initially for analysis to establish a carbon baseline, write grants and purchase software. Next, they intend to put funds toward developing an action plan. Blugold Media
