Midwest Universities Summit to Support Climate Collaboration

The first Midwest Collegiate Climate Summit will occur in early 2020 where representatives from universities, local governments, and businesses will gather to drive measurable, local action on climate by leveraging university resources. The focus of this convening, which will take place at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, is on climate change mitigation and moving to a 100 percent clean-energy economy. As universities conduct much of the cutting edge research on climate change, they produce the innovations and talent needed to help tackle the problem.

Bloomberg Philanthropies is a major sponsor of this initiative. They support a competitive program called American Cities Climate Challenge that is helping 25 cities to meet their near-term carbon reduction goals. St. Louis is among those cities with a goal to achieve 100 percent clean energy by 2035. Other Midwest cities in the challenge are Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Saint Paul, Chicago and Cincinnati. The Source
