First Utility-Installed Microgrid Takes DNR Site Off-Grid

The first utility–installed microgrid in Wisconsin took a DNR park building and cabin off the grid.  Alliant Energy and the WI Department of Natural Resources (DNR) designed and installed a small 6 kW solar array with battery storage system that’s powering lighting and a water pump at the Black Hawk Ridge recreational area of the Lower Wisconsin Riverway, just south of Sauk City. The microgrid, which cost $200,000, replaced overhead power lines for half the cost of replacing the aged lines. WISBusinessWSJ
