Horseradish Cooled by the Sun

Huntsinger Farms, the world’s largest horseradish grower and processor, began generating some of their own electricity the end of June at their Eau Claire farm. Their 100 kW AC solar PV system, installed by Carlson Electric, was sized to maximize Excel Energy’s net metering cap. It will reduce the farm’s electricity usage to run the coolers by 18 percent annually. Huntsinger Farms received a grant of just under $29,000 from Focus on Energy to help offset some of the project costs as well as financing from BMO Harris Bank.
