Scientist says Saratoga solar project is safe for residents, environment

The Wood County Solar Project expected to be completed in 2022 doesn’t present any health or safety concerns, a consultant hired by the town told residents [August 4] Wednesday evening. “If I had to have a facility in my backyard, I would say an industrial solar facility is better than a lot of other uses,” said Kent Syverson, of Syverson GeoConsulting.

Syverson said he talked to Savion and Alliant Energy officials about the project and studied materials filed to get the permits needed for the 150-megawatt facility. Syverson also visited the project site Wednesday afternoon. Savion, a Kansas-based company that develops solar projects for utility companies, proposed the Wood County Solar Project in 2019 and sold it to Alliant Energy.
