ENERGY STAR for Apartment, Condo Buildings Awarded

The EPA has recognized the first 17 existing apartment and condo buildings for superior energy performance with ENERGY STAR’s new multifamily building certification. With energy costs for renters increasing by 20 percent on average over the past decade, energy efficiency in multifamily buildings represents a significant opportunity to reduce utility costs and greenhouse gas emissions associated with energy production. The new ENERGY STAR 1-100 multifamily score and certification gives building owners and tenants tools to measure their property’s energy performance and will be integrated into other green building certification programs, including the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. For more information
