The Catholic Multicultural Center (CMC), Madison, WI, installed a 15.5 kW solar photovoltaic system in October that is expected to free up 10 percent of their energy costs or enough to provide just under 10,000 meals each year through their daily community meal program. They provide English as a Second Language classes, a food pantry, employment search assistance and other services as well. Three local Catholic parishes and H&H Solar collaborated to raise over $89,000 to build the system, receiving support from First Weber Realtors, a private foundation, individual contributors, and Focus on Energy. The CMC is already using the panels to educate the community about energy efficiency and renewable energy having just hosted a bilingual solar open house event.
