September 2018 Director’s Note

Fall has arrived and with it great opportunities to get out to explore Wisconsin’s brilliant renewable energy landscape. RENEW Wisconsin offers a Ride with RENEW bicycle tour September 29 to visit innovative wind, solar, geothermal and biogas energy generation facilities in Milwaukee on your own steam. The 25-mile bike tour will explore the Milwaukee Public Museum, Discovery World, Port of Milwaukee, Escuela Verde, School Sisters of Saint Francis and Potawatomi Biodigester. If pedaling is not for you, consider sponsoring a RENEW rider on this charity bike ride.

The Wisconsin Solar Tour happens in communities across the state and across the country simultaneously on Saturday, October 6. As part of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) solar tour, this self-guided circuit is of homes and businesses where people open their doors to share their energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable living actions.  View the map of sites and their projects posted by the Midwest Renewable Energy Association.

Local and State officials and others looking to promote economic development through clean energy might join Wisconsin Conservative Energy Forum’s last few Energize Wisconsin Tours. October 9 is a tour of Sunvest Solar’s Red Fox Crossing Subdivision with net-zero electricity homes in New Berlin. A tour of Gearbox Express on October 16 in Mukwonago will feature the remanufacturing of wind turbine gearboxes.

Enjoy this fall display of Wisconsin’s clean energy transformation. You’ll likely find a craft brewery along the way that’s powered by solar to energize you.
