Legislators Propose to Fund EV Charging Stations, Green Power, Training

Republican state lawmakers proposed several market-based initiatives to encourage renewable energy. The state government would pay half the cost for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along Wisconsin’s interstate corridors using funds from the multi-state settlement with Volkswagen, with retailers paying the other half. This would provide EV drivers on Interstate-94 with charging stations every 70 miles that could provide a charge in less than 30 minutes. A renewable energy rebate for residential customers who pay premiums for “green” power was proposed for half the cost for one year (from programs like Green Power Tomorrow -MGE, NatureWise -Wisconsin Public Service,Renewable*Connect -Xcel). Also proposed were solar and wind education and training grants through the Department of Workforce Development. WPR
