Middleton Mayor declares Solar Power Day, at the sunny October 28 groundbreaking for the Madison Gas & Electric 5 MW Shared Solar community solar garden on Middleton Municipal Airport Morey Field land. The City purchased 500 kW and the Middleton-Cross Plains School District purchased 1 MW of the 5 MW solar PV tracking system through a Renewable Energy Rider, moving Middleton quickly closer to its 100% Clean Energy goal (See Energy On Wi News, July 2019).
Expected savings for the school district are $28,000 in the first year and more than $1 million over the 30-year life of the project. The City of Middleton expects to save an estimated $1.2 million in electricity costs over the project’s life. The project began generating electricity in July 2020.
