Amazon Renaming Seattle KeyArena to Climate Pledge Arena

Amazon bought the naming rights to Seattle’s new 18,100-seat downtown Hockey and women’s NBA arena, which it will call Climate Pledge Arena. It will be the world’s first zero net carbon certified arena and run on 100 percent renewable electricity. The ice will be made from reclaimed rainwater and it will be zero waste as well.

Amazon launched The Climate Pledge in September 2019 that set an ambitious goal of meeting 100 percent carbon-free emissions by 2040, 10 years in advance of the Paris Climate Accord. Interim goals include reaching 80 percent of energy use from renewable sources by 2024 and 100 percent by 2030. Other commitments to reach their goals include net zero carbon shipments, purchasing 100,000 electric delivery vehicles, and investing $2 Billion to support technologies and services that reduce carbon emissions and help preserve the natural world.  SeattletimesAmazonSustainability
