Alliant Energy received PSC approval on Earth Day to purchase 675 MW of utility scale solar across six solar farms. This is the largest investment in solar in Wisconsin as Alliant moves to cut its carbon footprint in half by 2030 toward a zero carbon electricity goal by 2050. The utility will close its remaining two coal plants in 2022 and 2024, including the Edgewater Station in Sheboygan County and the 1,100 MW Columbia Energy Center. Already under development, the solar farms are in Grant, Jefferson, Richland, Rock, Sheboygan and Wood Counties. Alliant filed separate applications in March to buy another six solar developments for $515 million putting total acqusitions at $925 million. WSJ
