The 2.25 MW solar project at the City of Milwaukee’s former landfill near Mitchell International Airport is producing electricity. As part of We Energies’ Solar Now program, the utility built the solar system which feeds clean electricity into the grid for its customers, while the City, which is responsible for the new local renewable generation, receives the renewable energy credits (RECs). This moves Milwaukee closer to their 25 percent by 2025 renewables goal for city operations. As reported in biztimes, Milwaukee needs an additional 13-15 MW of renewable energy to reach its renewable electricity goal. biztimes
