The 100 MW Point Beach Solar Energy Center, commissioned at the end of September, created 200 construction jobs and stimulated the regional economy with sales of local goods and services during the 10 months of construction. It is expected to provide 8 million dollars in tax revenues to Manitowoc County over 20 years, generate clean energy for WPPI Energy’s customers, and boost the utility’s progress toward its 45 percent carbon reduction goal by 2025.
Built on 465 acres adjacent to the Point Beach Nuclear Plant in the Town of Two Creeks, a subsidiary of Nextera Energy Resources, LLC built, owns, and operates the solar system, leasing its electricity to WPPI Energy under a 20-year power purchase agreement. NextEra owns and operates the nuclear plant as well. hngnews
