The Frank L. Weyenberg Library in Mequon, WI now supports nearly 99 kilowatts of solar panels on its rooftop. This system will generate enough power to offset 45 percent of the library’s electric load. The library reduced its load first by improving the building’s energy efficiency. They installed high efficiency boilers and LED lighting to replaced fluorescent lighting and reframed all windows. With those efficiency upgrades plus the solar system, the Weyenberg Library will reduce energy costs with a 7.1 year return on investment. Installed by Arch Solar, the project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions the equivalent of offsetting over 4.1 million car miles driven and planting 27,195 trees over 20 years. gmtoday.
