The Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program through the Department of Transportation aims to help communities in the development of road safety action plans and improve unsafe roadway corridors. Funds can be utilized to test out safety features and potential solutions such as separated bicycle lanes as well as implement nature-based solutions. There are two grants available within the program:
Eligible Applicants: Cities, towns, countries, special districts, transit agencies, and similar units of local government created under State law, federally recognized tribal governments, or Metorpolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs)
Planning and Demonstration Grants:
Planning and Demonstration Grants provide Federal funds to develop, complete, or supplement an Action Plan. The goal of an Action Plan is to develop a holistic, well-defined strategy to prevent roadway fatalities and serious injuries in a locality, Tribal area, or region.
Eligible activities include:
1) Develop or complete a comprehensive safety action plan
2) Conduct planning, design, and development activities for projects and strategies identified in an Action Plan, or

Applications Due: May 16, or August 29.
Implementation Grants:
Implementation Grants provide Federal funds to implement projects and strategies identified in a comprehensive safety action plan (referred to as an “Action Plan”) to address a roadway safety problem. Applicants must have an eligible Action Plan to apply for an Implementation Grant. Safety problems must be addressed by implementing the projects and strategies in the Action Plan within 5 years of executing a grant agreement. Eligible projects and strategies can be infrastructural, behavioral, and/or operational activities.
Eligible activities must implement projects and strategies from an eligible Action Plan and may also:
